getting things in order

Since my granny died, my mom has spent a lot of time getting things in order. Lots of paperwork and things to do. And my granny was organized, or it would have been even more difficult. My mom is now going through and getting her paperwork in order and having me sign things so that when that day comes, it will be easier for me to get things in order too. I have not learned much about all the details, but I have learned that having everything in order makes it much easier on those left behind.

free ice

I was reminded this past week that you can get free ice from Whole Foods to carry cold foods home. They make up some small bags of ice that are perfect for putting in a small cooler with foods that need to stay cold. Just ask at the checkout. They gave me two bags no problem. This is a really nice and appreciated convenience.

catching I 10

I learned last night that I could catch I 10 from down town Houston without having to access Hwy 59. As I went around 45, the traffic was dead stopped. I knew I could go 50 to 10. But I could not get onto 59 from downtown. Then I noticed signs pointing me directly to 10. I was very happy to see the entrance directly onto 10 and never got lost or had to backtrack once!

when pets fly

I just learned that starting this week, Southwest Airlines will begin allowing small dogs and cats in crates to be taken on the plane with passengers. The pets must stay in the crates for the duration of the flight. I am not sure I will like this new policy. I mean if people think babies are obnoxious, I can only imagine a whining or howling dog or cat.

homemade ice cream

My family loves for me to make homemade ice cream. My husband’s favorite is Butterfinger. The kids like Oreo (Newman O’s) or M&M. I have made vanilla with chocolate syrup for the neighbors. Tonight I thought I’d try using the chocolate syrup to make chocolate ice cream. After nearly forty-five minutes, the ice cream was still too runny but would not turn. I guess by using the syrup there is too much liquid. I got it stirred up and still trying to get it to freeze up better. We’ll see how it turns out.
