bundles of love

I just learned about a great project that is quickly drawing to a close. I am not much of a sewer (not at all in fact!) but do have lots of craft supplies, including fabric scraps. My mom sews so I thought between us we could help out with the project.

A soldier in Iraq will be leaving in September. He is wanting to distribute fabrics and other sewing and kitting supplies to the people in his area (which now includes much of Northern Iraq) before he leaves. He will be accepting bundles until Sept. 7.

If you want to help out with this or know someone who might, please go to his blog to get all the details.

My husband bought me a new ice cream maker (I guess he really bought it for him.) I learned today that it is essential to stir the mix in another bowl before putting it into the ice cream maker. This is to ensure that the mix is completely integrated and the mixture gets properly stirred in the maker. The ice cream we made tonight turned out ok, but in the future I will try mixing it before hand to make sure it’s just right.

record turntables

While we were on our vacation this week, we found a fun little dessert spot that served treats from the 1950s, including ice cream sodas, brown and black cows, shakes, banana splits, and many other treats that kept my family full! The decor of the shop was also out of the ’50s, with movie posters, advertisements and vinyl records. We asked our daughter if she knew what they were and she did.

I don’t know how many people still have records these days, but I just learned that there is a device in which you can record your vinyl records straight to CD, and you don’t even need a computer. Using the ION LP-2-CD USB direct-to-CD Turntable sounds pretty easy. You simply place the record on the turntable, insert the CD, play the record and hit the record button. Now you can turn your favorite vinyl records into CD and enjoy them anywhere!

payperpost4

I have been giving PayPerPost 4 a try. I receive blog ad offers in my email inbox when they are available. I have three days to do them. I have not been paid yet as I have not yet reached the payout threshhold (which should be soon.) I have learned some things about using their new format.

First, I was having trouble submitting a post. Then, I could not figure out how to get a question answered. I found that you can click the “feedback” tab on the side of your profile. You ask questions in a community format or you can submit for a private reply. I have learned that submitting to the community forum had faster results, though I expected otherwise. An employee found the problem, which was of course rather simple, and posted what was wrong as well as posting a screen shot of the blog and highlighting where the problem was! wow!! So I learned two things at once about using PayPerPost 4!

webhosting

I like having a few blogs of my own, even though I do not know much about how all of it works. I was told that it is smart to have your blogs under your own domain. I think in some aspects it has helped me in the area of posting blog ads. But I’ve wondered about whether or not I should keep my blogs year after year, and for how many years will I keep doing this? (I guess I’ll be a gray haired granny blogger!)

When it comes to learning about webhosting, I like to look online to compare what’s available. I also like to find out new information to help keep my blogs running smoothly. It’s easy to find info in webhosting blogs, and you can gather lots of useful tips there. Learning about web hosting myths, issues and news, and SEO information is helpful for all bloggers who want to keep their blogs in top condition. Looking at sites where you can compare several web hosts at one time makes it much easier to figure out which host will best meet your needs. These days, web hosts are very affordable and easier to use.

I also learned about a couple of “green” web hosts! I love the one named for the avocado! They use wind energy to power their company!

Whether you are looking for the top ten webhosts, looking to make money with webhosting, or looking for responsible hosts who use alternative energy sources, it’s great to be able to fin all the info you need at one spot!

Exercise

I try to exercise everyday. But sometimes I get bored with it. Or just plain sick of it. And it doesn’t always seem to be producing results. So when I come across some new exercises or tips, I love to give them a try. Today I found a new set of exercises which take no gear, so you can do them at home. They are mostly squats and pushups. I gave them a try. Hard! I did one set in the morning, one at noon, and will do another tonight. I also learned some great new tips today. It’s been a good day for exercise!

can’t make ice cream without rock salt

My husband wanted ice cream last night. He had been gone for over a week, so I was happy to oblige. I went to the store to get the necessary items. But I did not realize I was out of rock salt. So I consulted the trusty internet and found folks saying you can use table salt in place of rock salt.

This did not work at all for me! I left the ice cream maker running for two hours or more. And it never turned to ice cream. So I put it in the fridge til today when I could go back and get rock salt. It seemed to work out ok. It did set up though my husband said it was still too creamy.

If you find yourself without rock salt and wanting to make homemade ice cream, I suggest either go back and get it or wait. Or you can experiment like I did and have a blog topic!
