sticking it out to the end

My son has been playing on the Freshman B basketball team this year at his school. The season is coming to a close with only about two more weeks to play. Last Friday, the kids received their report cards. This did not bode too well for my son’s team. They lost four players to grades. Then, as this week came around, two more players quit!

I could not believe that! After all they have been through, how can they quit with just two-three weeks left of the season!!?? They endured boot camp before ever making the team. They have to be at school at 5:45 am for their 6 o’clock practices. They helped with the fundraiser. Maybe they did not get as much playing time as they wished, but with losing four players, I think they would have gotten much more.

Even so, why quit now??? I really do not understand it. It is easy to see why the team’s morale has really plummeted. They have been on a losing streak. Then lost players. And then others quit…

What happened to sticking it out to the end?

Hosting the Brighton Wolves

Last night my son had a basketball game in the town in which we used to live. My niece came out to see him. She told us of an event that was taking place right after my son’s game. The junior varsity team of her high school was playing an Australian team. This team, the Brighton Wolves, were touring the US. I had not heard of this team before, so I looked them up and found their website . They are on tour this month to California and Texas. What an awesome opportunity for these young athelets. And it was pretty cool to see the attitude the hosting school had towards them as well.
