Get Wild About God’s Word

It’s time again for our annual summer bible reading club. For the past two summers, our church has sponsored a bible reading club, set up much like the local public library’s program. The kids are given a suggested reading schedule and can earn prizes based on the amount they read. We have had great response over the past two summers and are adding a new twist to our program this summer.

This summer, we are opening our reading club up to community members. The club itself will work the same way. We will also be providing a weekly Bible Power Hour for the kids involved. They can come up and recieve their prizes and stay for some singing, a Bible story related to the week’s reading, a puppet show and a snack.

We are very excited about all the plans and how well everything is coming together. After our first day of sign ups, we have 42 readers ready to “Get Wild About God’s Word”!

summer bible reading club

Our congregation just finished up our summer bible reading program. Kids and adults alike were challenged to read the entire Psalms and Proverbs through the summer. Many participated and most completed the reading. Last night we had an awards program followed by an ice cream party for all involved.

We had 56 children, ages 1 year through high schoolers, who participated by reading-or having read to them- at least some of the Psalms and/or Proverbs. Out of these, we had 40 kids who completed all the chapters in both books. Each student was presented with a certificate of participation, with the ones who completed the reading also receiving a medal. There were lots of happy faces, and many of those ended the night sticky with the joys of ice cream.

summer bible reading club

Last summer our congregation began a new summer tradition. We started a summer bible reading club. Anyone of any age can sign up and participate, and the kids will earn prizes throughout the program for each level of reading they achieve.

Last year we began on Memorial Day and read for 100 days through Labor Day. We were able in that 100 days to read through the entire New Testament by reading roughly three chapters a day.

This summer we will be reading through the Psalms and Proverbs. This is going to be a much easier reading schedule and I feel like it will be just as rewarding.

After our first day of sign ups this past Sunday, we have 36 kids signed up! It looks to be a summer filled with learning words of wisdom from the Bible.
